Usain Bolt proved he is the world's fastest sprinter by breaking the 200m world record and completing a rare Olympic sprint double.

The Jamaican won in a time of 19.30 seconds, knocking 0.02 seconds off the record set by the legendary Michael Johnson at the 1996 Games in Atlanta.

And he adds the 200m gold to the 100m title and world record he claimed earlier in the Games.

Bolt had built an enormous lead on the bend and none of his rivals could close the gap.

Christian Malcolm finished sixth for Great Britain in a time of 20.40 seconds.

Bolt becomes the first man since Carl Lewis in 1984 to win the 100m and 200m at the same Olympic Games.
