Hello Pipettes! Who are you and what do you do?
Gwenno : I'm Gwenno and I sing and do a bit of keyboards sometimes.
Rose : I'm Rose and I do that as well.
Becki : I'm Becki and I just sing. Although I do like playing with that thing on the keyboard, what's it called? The bender. I like playing with the bender.
Gosh! How might we describe you to our mum?
Gwenno : Three girls in spotty dresses who do the sort of music she probably knows quite well
Becki : And loves! But contemporary. And cheekier.
Gwenno : We're not skinny boys with guitars.
Good, she hates those. Boys tend to form bands to get girls but why do girls like you start bands?
Gwenno : The same! Ha ha! Girls and boys!
Becki: No, it's because we love performing as much as boys do.
Gwenno : It's being on stage; wanting someone to like you. It's that desperate for me!
Rose : It's about doing yourself and not having to listen to all the dross that's forced down your neck by said skinny boys. It's about having power and having fun.
Hoorah. We've noticed that in today's indie bands it tends to be the girl's job to play bass and look pretty. Do pretty girls have a natural talent for playing bass?
Becki : Bass, keyboards and vocals. That's all you're allowed to do in music if you're a girl, sadly!
Gwenno : We do things in a completely different way.
Becki : We all play instruments but we don't need to shove it in people's faces to anchor ourselves as 'musicians'.
Rose : We all write our songs and take the music really seriously but, for the performance, we like to not be restricted to stand behind an instrument. We want to have a dance and a laugh.
Gwenno : And our band of boys are fairly pretty and play their instruments fairly well...
Becki : And do what we want!
Power to The Pipettes! How amazing is your album?
Becki : It's amazing.
Rose : It made me cry.
Becki : Me too. Finally, two and half years later, this is the product of all the pain and heartbreak.
Rose : We'd always imagined horns and strings in our heads when we were writing these songs and its really nice to have those dreams realised.
Aww. And what will it be called?
Becki : 'We Are The Pipettes'. Am I not allowed to say that?
Rose : I haven't been saying it, because its like a guessing game but it doesn't matter...
Gwenno : It could also be called 'Shopping With The Pipettes'... 'Down The Chippy With...'
Becki : 'Getting Lost With...'
Rose : 'Breaking Down With...' that's the next album!
Becki : The main thing is. We're really happy with this album. And it doesn't sound retro. It doesn't sound like anything else that's around. It just sounds like us.
Well, we'll buy it whatever it's called. Thank you Pipettes!
